PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Interior Architecture and Environmental Design program at Istanbul Gedik University offers two different master's degree options: thesis-based and non-thesis-based. The rationale behind these programs is to approach functional, structural, and aesthetic solutions for unique spaces that appeal to all senses and offer different experiences from a theoretical and academic perspective. The aim is to enrich postgraduate studies in this discipline, where scientific research is less prevalent compared to similar fine arts and architecture disciplines, and to elevate students' knowledge and skills in interior architecture to a postgraduate level.
In today's world, individuals spend most of their lives indoors. There is an increasing need for interior spaces that are efficient, multifunctional, environmentally and psychologically conscious, designed in accordance with ergonomics and universal design principles, and that provide functions that enable stronger and closer relationships with employees, customers, and consumers. In interior design education, knowledge is transferred in a way that meets these needs, while the conceptual dimensions of space are internalized through theoretical graduate studies. In this direction, these two programs, with thesis and non-thesis options, aim to contribute to the training of designers who specialize in the fields of space design and space theory, emphasize interdisciplinary interaction, and discuss original ideas at the graduate level.
Students who have graduated from Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Interior Architecture, Industrial Product Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Visual Communication Design, Cinema Television, Stage and Set Design, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning departments can apply to our master's program. (Depending on the decision of the Department Chair and the Institute Board, students who have graduated from certain departments may be required to take a Scientific Preparation course.) Our graduates continue their careers as academics at universities and research centers, as well as working in various public and private organizations in the fields of design at the application and management levels.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
The Interior Architecture non-thesis master's program consists of a total of 30 credits, 10 courses, and a term project. The term project is not credited and is graded as either successful or unsuccessful. The duration of the non-thesis master's program is a minimum of two and a maximum of three semesters. The scientific preparation program is not taken into account in the calculation of the duration. Semesters in which the student is not enrolled are included in the maximum duration.
Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Special Application Requires
Students who have graduated from Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Interior Architecture, Industrial Product Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Visual Communication Design, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning departments may apply.
