Program Introduction
Founded in 2010, the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering is one of the oldest departments at Istanbul Gedik University. Since its establishment, the department has contributed to both our country and the international scientific literature through the students it has educated and the projects and academic studies developed by its faculty members and assistants. In this context, Istanbul Gedik University, which is continuously expanding and incorporating faculty members from various disciplines, the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering is a department that is developing in both education and research. The engineering education provided by our department has been accredited by the Engineering Education Programs Evaluation and Accreditation Association (MÜDEK) as of 2020.
We aim to take the experience and knowledge our department has gained over the years in education and research to the next level with our Master's Degree Program. In this way, we aim to provide the industry with specialized and highly qualified human resources needed to develop today's technologies, primarily in our country but also worldwide.
The Master's Program in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering aims to contribute to the production and dissemination of new technologies in academic and industrial fields and to train researchers with in-depth knowledge of material design, manufacturing, analysis, and synthesis. To this end, the program is conducted with a sector-oriented and interdisciplinary approach. Our program includes many courses that combine applied work in both metallurgy and materials science, such as Surface Treatment, Electrometallurgy, Casting Methods, Polymer Technologies, Laser Material Processing, Sintering Theory, and Inspection Methods in Welded Structures.
Our graduates have the opportunity to find employment in many sectors, including iron and steel, automotive, defense, aerospace, welding, and casting, as well as in the machine industry, polymer materials, ceramic materials, composite materials, advanced technology materials, biomaterials, and nanomaterials.
Program Structure
The thesis-based master's program in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering consists of a total of 7 courses worth 21 credits, a seminar course, and a thesis. The seminar course and thesis are not credited and are graded as either successful or unsuccessful. The duration of the thesis-based master's program is a minimum of four and a maximum of six semesters. The scientific preparation program is not taken into account in the calculation of the duration. Semesters in which the student is not enrolled are included in the maximum duration.
